Coronation Street Notes

This post is showing the initial notes I made when watching this episode of Coronation Street, however because the show was so dialogue heavy there wasn't much that I could comment on and the dialogue was a distraction for any actual analysis. This post therefore shows the types of topics the characters discuss through the episode. 

9th July 2018 - Part 1:

- All the characters are established already, therefore you have to watch their interactions to understand their relationships 

- Cafe: Characters walk in and out and interact with other characters 
> Talking about jobs, finding a house, "promise you won't tell anyone" 

- House: Family interactions, arguments and relationships
> Talking about cleaning, builders, forgetting, meetings

- As each is setting is familiar to the audience/ regular viewers you can almost associate some setting to some characters

- Hospital: Doctors, beeping of machine, phone ringing 
> Talking about doctor, antibiotics, waiting, concerns, time off work

- Outside hospital: Hospital logo, ambulance vans and cars, medium shots

-Streets: Bumping into people and having a chat, medium shots 
> Talking about hair, salon, lifestyle

- House: Two-shot
> Talking about eating lunch, apologising about family, salon, wedding

- Outside hospital

- Salon:
> Talking about booking, appointments

- Outside hospital:
> Talking about email, team, results, meetings 

- Streets:
> Talking about liars, money

- Streets:
> Talking about cash

- Prison visit: Shot reverse shot
>Talking about letter, university, Dad, solicitor, love, anger 

- Cafe: Shot reverse shot 
> Talking about crying, sorry, save, no fair
> Talking about work

- Prison visit:

- As characters enter the public place there are multiple conversations going on at once which switch through the scene

> Talking about waiting 
> Talking about sorry, I'm fine

- Outside hospital
> Talking about upset, emotional, ridiculous, support, withdraw, squabbles, leave

> Talking about ill, tired, double-date 
> Liar, two- faced 

- Streets:
> Talking about over, job, pub

- Hospital:

Coronation Street Textual Analysis

Coronation Street is a British soap opera which airs on Monday, Wednesday and Friday at both 7:30pm and 8:30pm for 30 minutes each. The show is set on Coronation Street in a fiction town called Weatherfield; it follows the story of working-class people and the city streets in which they live. The show has a variety of achievements such as becoming the world's longest-running tv soap opera and the most watched programme on British television, therefore is quite respectable. The show averages 8 million viewers per episode. I decided to watch Coronation Street as it is one of ITV's most well known shows and in terms of my coursework I may make something similar to it. I think a soap opera would be a good genre to look at as on both ITV and Channel 5 there are a few soap operas (e.g: Coronation Street, Emmerdale, Home and Away and Neighbours) which already gain praise which means that there is an audience which enjoys them.
