Marie Claire Magazine
For example this is an issue from October 2018 which features Jodie Whittaker, most known for her roles in Broadchurch and Doctor Who, on the front cover. This is an interesting cover to look at as she is a well-known actress who is presented to their, Marie Claire's, target audience. Marie Claire's audience seems to be targeted towards females, who are interested in expressing themselves through fashion, makeup and beauty etc. Other articles in this issue of the magazine include: Luxe look & autumn's hot colours, Sophia Webster on shoes, The Guilty Feminist on friendship, Lupita Nyong'o on role models, Hobbi Brown on confidence and modern masculinity.
In terms of my own magazine front cover, I think I will also include my leading actress dressed up - who is the main character and identifying figure to the show. She is a young female who would seem 'appealing' to the female audience for the magazine, and if they're unaware of the show can find out more.
The text next to Whittaker reads 'Get ready for THE NEW DOCTOR WHO' which puts a name or brand to her face as she is associated with Doctor Who.
For my own magazine the copy will suggest things towards the airing of my upcoming show 'The Breakfast Killer' and will gives fans an insight to both the main character and to the behind the scenes.
In this issue of Marie Claire, the cover leads audience to an interview with Jodie Whittaker which is spread out onto two double page spreads. The spread consists of an image of the actor themselves as well as a large copy of an interview with the her. The interview consists of thing such as how Whittaker felt when she was told that she got the role for The Doctor, her playing the role and things like who she looks up to etc.
For my own double-page spread I think I will include an interview with either the main actor or the director (or both) which expresses how the show came to be what it is - how the actors were casted, receiving the script and how they felt, what they thought of the script, filming, and then watching the final production come together with editing and all the final scenes being put together.
As the lead character of my show is the 'antagonist' you will see the actor in another light as she is talking as her real self. You see her apart from the character which is a complete change for the audience. The actress will be seen as herself through the copy as well as through the main image of the page, where she will be denoted to be wearing 'nicer' clothing compared to what she wore in the show which was more casual. This will both match the fact that she is being presented as a person herself rather than a character, as well as being similar to the use of fashion in these lifestyle magazine such as Marie Claire.
The other element to this double page spread of Whittaker is the quote by her which is placed next to the main image of her. I like this element because rather than reading the text heavy copy of the interview, it gives a short sentence of something she has said and somewhat believes in - as she is talking about inspiration and women.
Here is another double page spread that Jodie Whittaker is present on, however this time the page is mainly focused on high-end photoshoot images of her wearing high-end clothing and posing. I think this double-page spread fits the theme of the magazine well, which features many fashion brands and the latest fashion trends etc, making Whittaker appealing to audiences.

In relation to my own magazine, I think magazines such as Marie Claire are similar to what I wish to make. This is because their main focus is on women, and explore a variety of different subject. For example if you go to their website they cover fashion through the latest fashion shows, catwalks and clothing; whilst talking about TV shows eg articles about Riverdale, and the Crown. Other articles also include things about the royal family (mainly about Megan Markle, Prince William and Kate Middleton), makeup and skincare, and lifestyle aspects like plastic-free living.
As the main character of my show is female, it will appeal and target female audiences. We can reach a greater audience by featuring our actor in a highly female-focused magazine, where they'll be intrigued to find out more about what the show is, when it is airing, who are main actor is etc.
