Script #2

PARK - DARK

Fades in from black

Its dark, evening time - you see a long establishing shot of a playground, there are swings, a roundabout and a slide. Everything is still as quiet as the playground is all alone.

You see the swing moving the wind, gentle swings. Back and forth, back and forth. It moves as if someone had just been there.

The air is quiet, just the quiet breeze and distant noises can be heard.

The camera zooms in with every shot.

You see a shot of the slide, the climbing frames, and finally the roundabout.

Over the shoulder shot of a girl with ginger hair, she walks towards the round-a-bout (tracking shot, medium shot).

There's a wide shot as she takes a second and then gets onto the round-a-bout and slowly starts spinning on it. You see her placing he foot down and pushing down, cautiously and slowly.

As she spins she starts humming - the only thing that can be heard.

After a while there is a slight ringing (edited in afterwards?) which fades real quickly.

You see her get her phone out of her pocket and you see a lady present on her screen, she is dressed nicely and you can see a prominent focus of her cross necklace in the image.

She stares down at the image for a while, p.o.v, as the camera zooms in.

Medium shot of her looking down.

As she is looking down the phone starts ringing again almost startling her.

Again you see the screen of the phone however this time a childhood friend is calling, her name displayed on the screening as you hear the iconic iphone ring tone.

Walking to the swings and sitting down she answers the phone.

                 TANYA
     Hello?

                 SOPHIE
     Hey, where are you?

                 TANYA
I'm near the swings... (pause) the ones you threw up on at Gina's       party

                 SOPHIE
Oh yeah those ones, don't remind me. I'm on my way

They hang up the call, and Tanya slips her phone back into her pocket. She rests her elbows on her knees as she waits for Sophie, and looks around to see whether she's coming (medium shot).

As you wait with Tanya you hear the approaching of footsteps as Tanya looks up. She has a slight smile and stands up pulling Sophie into a hug as she approaches.

                 TANYA
     Hey, long time no see

They both sit down on each swing (two-shot)

Sophie has her hands in her lap as she stares off at Tanya with sadness.

Tanya has her hands on the chains and starts swing back and forth slowly

There is a long shot from the back of them and they both sit on the swings, there is silence. Sophie continues to watch Tanya, whilst Tanya stares off ahead.

P.O.V from Sophie of Tanya, close up of face

                 TANYA
Do you remember that time when you attempted going down the slide backwards.. and then you fell off and broke your arm.

Medium shot of backs as they look at the slide

Two shot, medium shot (front)

                 SOPHIE
Wow yes, that remember how much it hurt. And then your mum drove me to the hospital and we were both screaming and talking over each other because we didn't know what was going to happen.

                 TANYA
I thought you were dying you were in so much pain

Sophie has a smile on her face as she reminisces, she looks down at her arm, brushing it with her fingers

                 TANYA
I thought i was going to lose my best friend, my world would be over. But no you survived, and i got to sign that bright blue cast of yours

They both chuckle and then it falls to silence again

Sophie looks down at her, fiddling with her fingers and scuffing her feet on the floor

                 SOPHIE
So...I heard that you've started getting therapy... is that true?

                 TANYA
Yeah, well Mark said it would 'be for the best'

She says as she does air-quotation marks

                 TANYA
.. if i went after Mum was murdered.

                 SOPHIE
And how are you finding it?

Sophie looks up at Tanya awaiting her answer anxiously. She hopes for the best for Tanya as she goes through struggles, however it is always a tedious strain of waiting

                 TANYA
     It's fine.

                 SOPHIE
You do know that your Mum wasn't murdered?

Stings of music stars, builds tension. Out of tune make it eerie and uncomfortable

                 TANYA
     What're you talking about?

                 SOPHIE
     She took her own life

                 TANYA
No she did not, that's all anyone keeps saying but she did not          kill herself

                 SOPHIE
     (Slowly)
Your mother had a condition, she would hear voices... which             drove her to killing mental

                 TANYA
     Voices

Tanya stands up, her voice raising (wide angle)

                 TANYA
     (Raised voice)
The voices weren't the ones that killed her, it was all of you.         YOU'RE THE ONES WHO KILLED HER.

There is a pause, pause of music

Tanya is staring into Sophie's eyes piercing her as she is agitated. Over the shoulder, low angle as Sophie stares at Tanya

                 TANYA
     (Spite in her voice)
You're the ones calling her mad, and crazy.. hearing voices. Yeah       right! She was all I had and now you've taken her away. I know she       didn't end her own life, it was all of you who took it from her

Tanya is spitting out her words down at Sophie. As she finish speaking Sophie stands up slowly, her arms out.

She puts her hands around Tanya's arms and holds her

                 SOPHIE
     I understand you're upset

Tanya 'breaks out' of Sophie's hold and shrugs her off

                 TANYA
You all act like you care, when in reality it's all just a mask, a great scheme. You kill all the innocent ones and acts like it's a shock

                 SOPHIE
Tanya, I don't know what you're talking about. I care.

                 TANYA

Care? Pfft that's what you all say

Tanya looks off to face away from Sophie. They didn't understand.

Sophie put her hand on Tanya's shoulder, attempting to make her face her, however Tanya shrugs her hand off.

                 TANYA
Just leave me alone, I don't need your sympathy.

Sophie again places her hand on Tanya shoulder, which  Tanya shrugs off more forcefully

                 TANYA
      I said leave me alone

                 SOPHIE
Tanya I just want to help

                 TANYA
Help? Just like everyone helped my mother when she needed it.  You're all full of talk, bullshit, none of you are of any help.

Tanya walks off but Sophie quickly pulls her back by the shoulder once more. Tanya turns to face Sophie and give her a hard push. Sophie falls to the ground with a large thud.

                 SOPHIE

     Tanya, just calm down!

Sophie's voice is scared and panicked. she puts her arms out in from of her ushering her to be calm

Shot reverse shot, medium shot of a low angle looking up at Tanya and a high angle looking down at Sophie - p.o.v

                 TANYA
     (Shouting)

Calm down, how can I fucking calm down when my mother was murder. Everyone who did my mother wrong will pay for this.

Shot of Sophie face which is scared, the camera zooms in
Sophie's hands are on the ground behind her, as she leans back to get away from Tanya

There is a pause as the camera zooms in on Sophie's face, music tension builds

                 TANYA
You're the one that's going to pay

Tanya raises her hand (out of shot) and it cuts to black

  1. Good planning. Clear sense of genre - what about representation?
